Firearms Applications

We understand that some people require to have a shotgun/firearm licence either for occupational or recreational reasons. The arrangements to enable the police to be provided medical information have recently been subject to discussion between the Home Office and the BMA.  The Ardblair doctors are willing to provide the requested medical information to the police to assist them in deciding whether to approve firearms applications, as we feel this improves the safety for the general public. To carry out this check properly takes time to carefully review medical notes, this is not a service that is funded by the NHS so we will ask the applicant for a fee of £45 before proceeding with the application. Applicants should also be aware that the Home Office have asked GPs to mark the medical records of those holding a firearms licence with this information.  As of the 1st August this fee will be £45.00.
